Yukon Gold Project Regional Structural Results (2011-2013)

An important outcome of MDRU’s Yukon Gold Project was a published manuscript in the journal Interpretation by Sánchez et al., 2014 that identified regional lineaments in the poorly exposed western Yukon and eastern Alaska, and identified their associations with epigenetic mineral occurrences. The study utilized a multi-parameter approach to assessing the reliability of lineaments as real geologic features, which integrated aeromagnetic data and associated derivatives, gravity, topography, and existing geologic information. Spatial queries of lineament azimuth and lineament density were used to identify previously unmapped structural corridors, and these have been compared with the known distribution of mineral occurrences to generate new hypotheses about structural ore controls at a regional scale.

Also provided is the attributed digital linework as a shapefile, that accompanies and supports the Interpretation article. This information has potential value for regional exploration targeting and provides good quality data for a region with poor outcrop but good mineral potential.
