Project Team

Aleksandar MiskovicAleksandar Mišković will lead the project and have the responsibility of project design, implementation and synthesis of various thematic components into a deliverable product. Alex offers more than 10 years of experience in geochronology, geochemistry and petrogenesis of igneous rocks. During his doctoral studies Alex quantitatively surveyed intrusive rocks along 1800 km of the Eastern Peruvian Cordillera by using a range of analytical techniques including isotope tracing by mass spectroscopy and in situ U-Pb dating. In 2008, Alex was awarded the Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoctoral fellowship to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He most recently utilized his skills as the Diamond Geologist for the Canadian Federal Government in Yellowknife, NT. Alex will also supervise graduate students and provide training to project sponsors.

Craig HartCraig Hart is the MDRU Director and has more than 25 years of experience mapping and evaluating the regional geological settings of mineral districts in the Cordillera. Craig has expertise mapping in arc environments and evaluating porphyry, epithermal, intrusion-related and orogenic gold systems, and metallogenic studies of districts in North America and Asia. He has consulted to a range of major and junior explorers, provides advanced ore deposit training to industry and students, and has given presentations and short courses throughout the world. Dr. Hart was awarded the Geological Association of Canada Boldy Award for the best mineral deposit-related presentation in 2005, and was the SEG Distinguished Lecturer of the Society of Economic Geologists in 2010. He will provide project management and scientific expertise to the project, as well as graduate student supervision.

Ilkay KuscuIlkay Kuşcu is a Professor of Geological Sciences at Muğla University in Turkey. Ilkay received his PhD degree at Orta Doğu Technical University where he studied the Çataltepe Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag deposit. He successfully completed the 2009 MDRU Turkey Metallogenic Project, the predecessor to the current research initiative. Dr. Kuscu will be the co-leader and the key expert in our attempt to unravel the metallogeny of the Eastern Turkish Pontides. He has extensive experience with the regional geology and Tethyan-aged metallogenic belts of Turkey.

Farhad BouzariFarhad Bouzari is an MDRU Research Associate with experience in deciphering the evolution and alteration distributions of several porphyry Cu-Au-Mo deposits including the Cerro Colorado, El Galeno and Hilorico porphyry copper systems in Chile and Peru. Dr. Bouzari also has expertise in mapping alteration zoning of Archean orogenic gold systems. He is currently engaged in establishing the porphyry Cu indicator mineralogy (PIMS) as a predictive exploratory tool.

Matias SanchezMatias Sanchez research has focus on the understanding of the complex relationships and interactions of structures and magmatism which determine the magmatic-hydrothermal flow which promote the emplacement of gold epithermal systems in extensional provinces. He is a structural geologist with over 8 years of experience in the mineral exploration industry and economic geology research projects. He recently completed his PhD at the Fault Dynamics Group at Royal Holloway University of London where he also coursed an MSc programme and worked as a research assistant. During his time at the University of London his research focused on the tectonic and structural controls of epithermal gold and porphyry style copper-gold deposits of northwestern Turkey and Southern Argentina. His research at the Tethyan Project will involve detail fault analyses, as well as continental scale tectonic interpretations by utilising high-resolution remotely sensed imagery and geophysical data, as well as geological field mapping. 2D and 3D interpretation with the use of GIS will be essential in order to uncover the links between fault development, mechanical permeability, magmatic emplacement, fluid pump systems, hydrothermal pathways and potential mineralization.

Dr. Vasilios Melfos Dr. Vasilios Melfos is a lecturer in economic geology and geochemistry, at the Faculty of Geology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. His research interests include fluid inclusion studies of magmatic-hydrothermal, porphyry and epithermal type mineralizations in Greece, as well as geothermal fields, caves and gemstones. He also studies the provenance of the raw materials of white marble archaeological artifacts, based on mineralogy, petrography and C-O isotopic geochemistry.

Dr. Panagiotis Voudouris Dr. Panagiotis Voudouris is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mineralogy-Petrology, Faculty of Geology & Geoenvironment, University of Athens. Between 2008 to 2010, he also served as a Visiting Professor for Economic Geology at the Institute of Mineralogy-Petrology, University of Hamburg. His primary research interests include mineralogy and metallogeny of magmatic-hydrothermal (porphyry-epithermal, reduced intrusion-related, skarn, manto-type), and detachment-related mineralization. He is a member of the Administrative Board of the Mineralogy and Petrology Museum, Athens University, and a member of the Editorial Board of Journal Minerals.
